This article gives an alternative explanation to Carey and Siavelis article (2003) where it states that the Concertación presents stronger candidates at the parliamentary elections because it offers “insurance”, executive appointments, for those candidates who would lose the election after taking a personal risk in favor of the coalition. Here, I evaluate the previous political career of those candidates, and starting from this point, I state that those who lost the parliamentary elections, instead of receiving an “insurance”, return to the government after of the elections. This work deepens with the allocation of governmental positions to the Concertación´s goog losers and research if they already worked for the government before launching their parliamentary campaign.
