Resumen

La participación comprometida de los usua­rios es un proceso social dinámico que se ve influido por quiénes participan y cómo lo hacen. Aquí sostenemos que los diseñado­res deben tener en cuenta las condiciones estructurales de la vida de los usuarios, ya que estas pueden tener implicaciones relacionadas con la seguridad, la responsa­bilidad y la política. Para comprender mejor estas consideraciones, revisamos el estado del arte en el ámbito de la configuración y la participación de los usuarios desde el punto de vista estructural de la violencia de género. Proponemos tres dimensiones que podrían ayudar a los diseñadores a profundi­zar su compromiso en este ámbito, a saber: la construcción del usuario, el compromiso con el contexto y el posicionamiento de los diseñadores. Combinamos estas dimensio­nes para generar un marco con el cual revisar y comparar, a modo de ejemplos, ciertos resultados de diseño para la prevención de la violencia de género. Este artículo sugiere reflexiones y preguntas que los diseñadores deben tener en cuenta para pensar de forma más estructural sobre el diseño y la violencia de género, así como sobre otros contextos en los que intervienen personas en situación de vulnerabilidad.

Rute Fiadeiro, Royal College of Art

Ph.D. (c), Escuela de Diseño, Royal College of Art. Licenciada en Ingeniería de Diseño de Productos con Práctica Profesional por la Universidad Brunel de Londres y Máster de Investigación (Design Pathway) por el Royal College of Art. En su doctorado investiga cómo los diseñadores se relacionan con los usuarios en contextos de violencia en la pareja. Sus intereses de investigación incluyen la participación de las personas en temas sociales complejos como la privacidad, el género, la violencia, el feminismo y el humanitarismo. Es coautora de “Reframing the Narrative of Privacy through System-thinking Design” (con L. Ferrarello, R. Mazzon y A. Cavallaro; en DRS2022 Proceedings).

John Stevens, Royal College of Art

Ph.D. en Diseño y Estrategia, Cambridge Univer­sity. Es licenciado en Biología Molecular por el King’s College y M.Des. en IDE por el Royal College of Art y el Imperial College. Se incorporó al Royal College of Art en 2013, con el lanzamiento del Global Innovation Design MA/M.Sc., donde actualmente es tutor senior. Investiga la aplicación del diseño (productos, interacciones y sistemas) a la innovación social, transcultural y humanitaria. Jo-Anne Bichard, Royal College of Art

M.Sc. en Comunicación Científica, Imperial Co­llege. Licenciada en Antropología Social por el Goldsmiths College. Es profesora de Diseño Accesible en el Centro Helen Hamlyn de Diseño del Royal College of Art. Como antropóloga del diseño cuya investi­gación implica la colaboración multidisciplinar e interdisciplinar y el compromiso participativo en el proceso de diseño inclusivo, coordinó y llevó a cabo la investigación sobre “El diseño inclusivo de los aseos públicos en los centros urbanos”, en la que se examinó la oferta de aseos públicos en siete ciudades inglesas. Entre sus publicaciones más recientes figuran “A Mighty Inconvenience: How Covid-19 Tested a Nation’s Continence” (con G.
