This article displays key aspects of the intellectual and existential legacy of this Venezuelan thinker and educator who lived and wrote in Concepción and Valparaíso, Chile, between 1833 and 1840. It is a reexamination which attempts to identify the threads of an intellectual dialogue about Rodríguez from the XIX century to the present involving writers like Andrés Bello, Miguel Luis Amunátegui, José Victorino Lastarria, Ricardo Latcham, Gonzalo Rojas y Fernando Villagrán, among others.
