This article deals with Martín Cerda’s La palabra quebrada (1982) as a text where a singular self-reflexivity is fulfilled that allows the articulation of a discourse about the essay genre from the writing of an essay. This self-reflective gesture is inscribed in the modern conception of the genre, implying not only a representation of an epochal temper based on the assumption of a way of writing, but also as a procedure that indicates a way of working that allows us to understand the work of Cerda in the peculiarity of her discursive notions that are deployed in a poetic way.
